Spain defeated the lame anti-football of the Italians to move ahead to the Semi-finals of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup
Cesc Fabregas scored the penalty that sent the Italians home and led Spain to the semifinals of Euro 2008 against Russia.
This year, in the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup, what are considered the top teams of the European football had no talent and no football, just flops. France was the living proof, and Italy was the second team.
The Italians had nothing to show in Euro 2008, just the anti-football that they use each time they cannot offer anything else. If all the teams would play like Italy, football will be boring and dirty. The other extreme of Italy is Brazil, good plays, great game, great talents. Italy is cheating, cheating and defense, defense. Luckyly they are not in the Semifinals of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup.
But not all the teams who are in the Semi-finals deserve to be there. We football fans were expecting the Netherlands to be in the Semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2008 or Portugal. But the Russians defeated the Dutch (with no cheating tactics) and the Portuguese did not defeat the Germans, the other favourite team of Euro 2008.
After two days of rest we will enter into the Semi-finals of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008:

The best and most exciting match of the UEFA Euro 2008 cup so far, was Germany against Portugal. The first quarter finals game is what European football is all about. Portugal was overwhelmed by the German team. There was nothing they could do. Not even Deco could do much against the power of Germany. What a game!!
And the flop of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup: Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 3 goals of Germany against Portugal were wonderful. And Lukas Podolski was close to score a fourth and great goal to the Portuguese, but went out. Nuno Gomes and Deco tried really hard, and played really good. But it was obvious the inexperience of the rest of the team. Deco tried to play like if he were in Barcelona, but the other Portuguese players could not really understand his game. Not to mention the ridiculous Cristiano Ronaldo. Was he playing? Did he play at all at the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup?
There is no doubt now who is the top player of Germany at the UEFA Euro Cup 2008 and not only in this European tournament, perhaps the best German player currently: is not Michael Ballack, is not Klose, is not Podolski, is not goalkeeper Lehman and is not Gomez (another dangerous flop). The best player of Germany at Euro 2008 is Bastian Schweinsteiger. I think I can say that he is the Deco of the German team. A great player.

First game of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup: Germany against Portugal
Yesterday Russia defeated Sweden, and the last team entered the Quarter Finals of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup. Now the list is complete, and today we will have the first game, where the Germans will face the Portuguese, clear favourites to win not only against Germany but the UEFA Euro 2008 tournament.

Germany vs Portugal
Both teams have played in 15 occasions with Germany performing better in 7 matches. Portugal have only defeated the Germans in 3 occasions. 3 times they have ended up in a tied game. It is worth to remember that Germany played against Portugal in the game for the third place in the last world cup in 2006. In that match, the Germans defeated the Portuguese 3 to 1.

Italy played "a la Italiana" to be in the Quarter Finals of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008
No surprises in the last matches of the Group C of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008. France lost against Italy. Italy played, as usual and to the bore of football fans, defense and to throw themselves to the floor each time they could to try to cheat the referee.
And as usual, Italy got their pass to the quarter finals of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008, with an accidental goal and with no football at all. France on the other hand, was one of the worse teams of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008. I am sure that even Austria or Switzerland could have defeated the French team.
It is truly a shame that teams as the Italian can keep on in the UEFA Euro Cup 2008. There is no quality on the team, only cheats. If you compare Italy with Portugal, Spain or the Netherlands, the Italians will blush on how poor their football is, and how much they depend on cheating: holding the ball to make time, exaggerating the faults, etc. But no surprise, Italy has always played this way.
On the other hand, Romania deserved to go into the quarter finals of the Euro 2008, but the Dutch were mercyless and defeated them. Now we have almost a complete list of the next matches of the quarter finals of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008:
Germany against Austria: one of the most boring games of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008?
What a boring game! The Germans are in the quarter finals of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup but they are not playing good football. I mentioned previously that we were still going to see the real Germany football style, after the game against Poland, but yesterday's match was a disgrace. I live in Germany, and all the Germans were looking forward to the game against Austria. But after the game just a few celebrated that Germany is in the quarter finals.
I personally don't see any reason to celebrate as Germany was not the second best of the Group B of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008, but the least worse. They were better than Austria and Poland, which is not much to say. Now Germany will play against Portugal, and we will see the real power of the Germans. I just hope they not choose to play Italian style and wait for a single goal to be able to defeat the Portuguese.
What a shame and what a bore. I hope today's matches will be better.

The Netherlands and Spain are the teams who are almost on the quarter finals of Euro 2008, if nothing out of the ordinary happens.
In the most exciting game of the UEFA Euro cup 2008 Turkey sent the Czechs home
Nihat Kahveci was the man of the game and he led Turkey to the quarter finals of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup
What a game!! What a joy of game for the fans of football and the fans of Turkey as well!! Turkey sent home the Czech Republic playing with all their strength and skills on the last 20 minutes of the match. Nihat Kahveci scored two goals in the last ten minutes that pushed Turkey into the quarter finals of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008.
The Czechs had everything, they were already winning 2 - 0, with good football and good defense. Perhaps the game was a little bit violent, with too many faults, but they were succeding in stopping the Turkish. But then, on the minute 75 of the match, Turkey scored a goal that gave the team self confidence to keep on fighting. To be honest, Turkey did deserve to tie the game, they were playing a very good game, different from their last performances on the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup.
And then, in the minutes 87 and 89, the captain of the Turkish team, the experienced Nihat Kahveci, scored two goals. The first goal was a combination of struggle, experience and good luck, And the second goal was marvellous. A great goal. The Czech Republic could not believe it. Just 15 minutes before, they were sure they were going to be in the Quarter finals of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008 and at the end they had to go home.
Turkey now is likely to play against Croatia, in the second game of the Quarter finals of the UEFA Euro Cup 2008. The game will be next friday, june the 20th, at 20:45. Portugal will open the series of the Quarter finals against the team that stays in second place result from todays matches. I hope is against Germany. This match will be next thursday, june the 19th at 20:45 as well.

Portugal are not dissapointing football fans at home neither their fans around the world. They are still one of the favourites to win the UEFA Euro Cup 2008, and surprisingly after Italy was at the top until last week, in our poll as well. Did you vote for your team already? Portugal is fulfilling expectations, but Cristiano Ronaldo is not. He might be scoring goals, but Villa from Spain is scoring better and more goals, as well as Lukas Podolski from Germany. The leaders of Portugal at the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup are not Pepe or Nani but experienced players Deco and Nuno Gomes.
It was a rough game, with no traces of the Czech Republic and Jan Koller was not to be found in the minutes when he was on the field. And again, when Cristiano Ronaldo shares the ball, Portugal scores. When he only looks for him to score, the whole team suffers. On the other hand, if he wants to be the top scorer of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup, he better starts scoring more goals. But he should not bring down Portugal on the intent.

Greece is no longer the powerful team and Sweden now is a serious candidate for the UEFA Euro Cup 2008 championship

If the eyes of the Football world were not so delighted by the quality of football of the earlier game, we all would be astonished by the defeat of Greece by Sweden on their first game at the UEFA Euro Cup 2008. Not because Sweden is not a powerful team, but because Greece had shown great football on the qualifying matches to the Euro 2008.
This game proved that the football of German trainer Otto Rehhagel no longer works. The champions of the UEFA Euro 2004 Cup in Protugal, Greece, did not shine on their first game. More the opposite, Sweden showed that they are serious candidates for the Euro 2008 championship. Their next game against Spain will be a test for both, for the Spanish and for Sweden, to see if they can mantain a good level of football.
The first goal of Sweden in the Euro 2008 was wonderful, one of the best goals so far. And Larsson is proving himself as very useful in the Swedish team. The second goal of Sweden, after a great play by the Swedish, was a combination of mistakes, good luck and bad luck. But it was goal after all.
The next (great) game of the Swedish at the UEFA Euro Cup 2008 will be against Spain next saturday June the 14th at 18:00. And the next game of Greece will be against Russia at 20:45. A good opportunity for both teams to wake up and to score goals and points. Whichever team loses, is out of the Euro 2008.

What a game!! What a delight!! That was European football at its best!! The first game of Spain at the UEFA Euro Cup 2008 was a rollercoaster ride!! Is David Villa the new Cristiano Ronaldo?? Is finally Spain turning into a European football power?
The eyes of the football world are now in Spain. Everybody is expectant: will they be able to mantain the rythm during the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup? or is it going to be like in the world cup? when they defeated Ukraine but they flopped later?
No matter what. Spain´s performance yesterday was impressive, and David Villa even more. The rain falling during the whole game, added some drama into the match. Spain finally showed some organised football, with good plays; looks like finally the Spanish team is finding its way. It might be now the turning point and the next game will show definetely how strong Spain is. David Villa is now the top scorer of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup.
If Spain stays at the top of the Group D, will play against the second best from Group C. Not an easy task.
The second and next match of Spain at the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup will be on saturday (June, 14th), against Sweden in Innsbruck in Austria. It is going to be a terrific match!
